Farewell and Best of luck party at GNPS-36-D,Chandigarh
It was a special moment for the outgoing students of classes X and Xii at GNPS, sector 36- D , Chandigarh as their juniors gave them a scintillating , emotion filled warm farewell. To add colour to the occasion they presented a cultural programme which was a fusion of games,rap songs ,dances and bhangra. The eye-catching ramp show a contest to judge the beauty and the brains was the most enjoyable and awaited event of the evening. The outgoing students attired in modern as well as traditional outfits were invited to participate in the preliminary round of the rampshow. The 8 finalist set the stage ablaze and gave the judges a tough time.A ravishing Ms Gursimran K of XII was declared Ms. GNPS and the dashing debonair Mr. Channpreet S XII was declared MR. GNPS. Gursharandeep Singh(X A) and Noordeep Kaur ( X A) were adjudged the best boy and girl respectively.
Principal Ms Gurnam Kaur Grewal blessed and motivated the students to make deliberate efforts to score good percentage in the forthcoming board exams as they stood on the threshold of entering into a new phase of life.
Cultural Programme : Bhangra Competition at GNPS-36-D,Chandigarh
The spirit of 'Bhangra' reverberated through the environs of Guru Nanak Public School', Sector 36-D, Chandigarh as Principal Ms Gurnam Kaur Grewal and staff members played host to a very unique and vivacious 'Cultural Programme : Bhangra Competition' . The programme started with the renditions of the school shabad followed by the 'lighting of the Lamp' by the Chief Guest , our alumnus- Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu [Member Parliament from Anandpur Sahib and President of the Panjab Youth Congress] The tiny-tots of the Junior Wing of the school welcomed the guests dancing to the tunes of the song, “ Together we welcome you all”. In her welcome speech Principal Ms Gurnam Kaur Grewal said that in today’s materialistic world where we are treading fast towards westernization and leaving behind emotions and relations, GNPS fulfilling its moral commitment towards society -to bridge the ever increasing generation gap,has organized this bhangra competition for different age groups .Because of many social activities related to Sahayta Cancer Sahyog Society , Mother Teresa’s Home ,Old Age Home etc., GNPS has been declared the best school in tricity for its Interact club and got registered with Rotary International.Ramneek Kaur of class XI who got Gold Medal in National Judo Championship was also honoured along with other students who brought laurels to the school at National Level in G.K Quiz,Basketball,Atheletics & Horse riding .Our Cricket Team who won the Cremica Cup out of 32 schools of tricity was also honoured by the Chief Guest.
The rapturous occasion was marked by the medley of rhythm, colourful attires, and the foot-tapping bhangra fiesta from the land of the five rivers-' The heart and soul of Panjab'. It was showcased by the ever so enthusiastic and zealous five teams- senior citizens-all above 70 years of age, members of the Chandigarh Cricket Association, staff- members, school alumni, and the vigorous school team who enthralled the audience and left them awestruck.The Stage –Secretary,Vice-Principal, Ms.Satnam Kaur kept the audience glued to their seats throughout the function with her scintillating anecdotes and witty humour to cheer up all the participants.
The Chief Guest congratulated and applauded the participants and gave away prizes and mementos to the first three winning teams. Alumni team of GNPS stood first and won the trophy for the best performance while second prize went to the shool team and third to the teacher’s team. Consolation prize was bagged by team of senior citizens and by team of CCA. Chief guest in his speech laid emphasis on moral education and the role of teachers and parents in shaping the personality of the students.He then announced a donation of Rs one lakh for the school and Rs 50,000 for the alumni association of GNPS headed by its President- S.Harpal Singh. In his Vote of thanks, Gen .Secretary, S.J.S. Bawa along with other members of the Governing Council –S.Jugraj Singh Gill and .Ashok Singh Bagriah thanked the chief guest S.Ravneet.S –M.P, Mrs.Inderpal Bains-wife of media advisor to C.M. Punjab and everyone present there. The programme concluded with the national anthem.
Cricket Match in GNPS 36 Alumini vs School Team
A bright sunny morning brought cheers on the faces of one and all present to witness and to play the friendly match organised in the school premises .The chief guest was the Internationally renowed cricket player Mr. Dinesh Mongia. The Alumini With the players from 1978 batch onwards participated very enthusiasticly with nostalgic memories. They gave a stiff competition to the young school team .The school team was the winners scoring 206 runs winning by margin number of runs.A cultural program was presented by kids of junior wing.
The other distinguished guests of the day wre Mr. Mohinder Singh ,Secretary CCA.The trophy was given to the school team by Mr. Dinesh Mongia and the Man of the match was Class 12 student Anil Sihag. The Principal of the school Ms Gurnam Kaur Grewal thanked one and all present and also announced that there is going to be a Bhangra competition on 13th of Feburary in the school campus in which teams from various age groups are participating . Six teams namely are - Senior citizens, Cricket Academy, Staff members , Alumini, Senior wing students and the tiny tots.
The 61st Republic day was celebration
The 61st Republic day was celebrated in Guru Nanak Public School
,sec-36-D, Chandigarh,with great enthusiasm and patriotic zeal.The
programme started with school shabad followed by flag hoisting
ceremony. .The highlight of the ceremony was the parade by the NCC
students.The salute was taken by the principal,Ms. Gurnam Kaur
Grewal.The cultural programme consisted of patriotic speeches,
poems,songs and dances by the students of the Senior and Junior
Wing.In her speech, the principal, Ms. Gurnam Kaur
Grewal,highlighted the significance of the day and urged the
students to nurture the gift of freedom given to us, by our freedom
fighters.She also appreciated the efforts of the students and the
staff to make the program a great success.
Children's Day Celebrations
The School Enthusiastically celebrated children’s day .the Teachers staged a stupendous programme and entertained the children who enjoyed every moment of the programme.the staff members started with School shabad followed by news and other cultural programme like solo dance ,singing and dancing.
A number of fun-filled games were organized for the students which sent them in splits of laughter.The Children of the Junir Wing also enjoyed camel rides, Mickey Mouse bouncy and participated whole hearetedly in a fancy dress competition.
Principal Ms. Gurnam Kaur Grewal highlighted the importance of the day and wished the children on account of Children’s Day.
A friendly match and musical chair culminated the programme. Refreshments were served to all.

Guru Nanak Dev’s Birthday was celebrated in the school premises with gusto and fervour . A three-day, ‘Akhand Path’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib’, culminated in the School Gurudwara. The congregations listened to the religious preaching of the First Guru, Gurbani Kirtan, poem-recitation and spiritual discourse. The whole school echoed with sacred hymns and filled everyone’s heart with spiritual zeal and sanctity. The students of both the Senior & Junior Wings participated with great zeal.
Shabad gayan of Gurbani Kirtan by Ragi Bhai Sirtaj Singh ji and the school students left the audience spellbound. It was followed by the recitation of ‘Sahaj Dhun Gurbani Gayan’ by Ishmeet Singh Trust,Ludhiana. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Gurnam Kaur Grewal appreciated the efforts of Sahayta Cancer Society and the ‘Ishmeet Singh Trust ‘ for following the teaching of Guru Nanak Dev ji. She also felicitated the members of the ‘Ishmeet Singh Trust’ and the volunteers of Sahayta Cancer Society for their contribution to society.At the end of the samagam, ‘Guru Ka Langar’ prepared by the students and the staff was served to the sangat.It was a pleasure to see the total involvement of the students from core of their heart in the sewa of this sacred function.The General Secretary, S.J.S. Bawa thanked the students and staff members for their effort to make this day a grand success.
Diwali,the festival of lights and colors was celebrated on 14th October
with pomp and splendour in the junior Wing of Guru Nanak Public School.The whole school was tastefully decorated with glittering diyas and candles .Various competitions like card making and Rangoli marked the day. The tiny tots were gifted with colourful and aromatic candles.Cards made by the students were sent as Diwali Greetings to their parents.
Principal,Ms. Gurnam Kaur Grewal spoke to the children about the importance of the day and stressed on celebrating a safe and eco-friendly Diwali.The atmosphere resounded with gaiety and fervour.
The highlight of the day was a scintillating display of fireworks.
New team of Interact Club of Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36-D, Chandigarh was installed on 8th October, 2009.
The Installation Ceremony of Interact Club has held in Guru Nanak Public School in the presence of Principal Miss Gurnam Kaur Grewal, Rotary Club President, H.S. Saggu, Rtn Inderjeet Singh, Rtn. Sanjeev Chakar and Rtn Meenakshi, Rtn Navjit Singh Aulakh,Rtn. H.S. Nanda. The event began with the National Anthem followed by the appointment of new President Meenu Verma and new Secretary, Palkeet Kaur. The outgoing President of the Interact Club, Gazal Multani highlighted the activities conducted in the Club in the last session under the guidance of Mrs. Suman Lata, Incharge of Interact Club. The Principal Miss Gurnam Kaur Grewal urged the students to work tirelessly and keep up the good work done.
The programme concluded with a speech by the President of the Club, Rtn H.S. Saggu followed by a speech by Rtn Sanjeev Chakkar.
The word ‘teacher’ sends a wave of ecstasy, the moment one thinks about it. That was exactly the feeling the teaching faculty got when the students of Guru Nanak Public School expressed their gratitude by putting up a colourful programme .
The chief guest for the day was Mrs. INDERPAL BAINS wife of, media advisor to the chief minister of Punjab . The senior and Junior school Inter - House ‘Song’ and ‘Dance’ competitions were held and the revered judges were our very own GNPS alumni members – Ms. Latika, Ms. Amrita and Mr. Harpal Singh( President, GNPS Alumni Association).
The Highlight of the day was TREE PLANTATION. Saplings of silver oak were planted symbolizing ‘strength’ and ‘endurance’.
Principal Ms. Gurnam Kaur Grewal visited Sahayata Cancer Sahyog centre along with school students , where GNPS had sponsored a function to interact with the children suffering from cancer as a part of teachers’ day celebrations. Stuffed toys, painting books, colours and snacks were distributed amongst them to boost their morale. A painting and kite flying workshop was also organized for them to bring colour in their lives, and at the same time sensitizing school children with their sufferings and teach them love, care and share through experiential learning.
Principal, in her speech paid tribute to the greatest teacher of his time Dr. S Radhakrishnan and urged the staff to follow his footsteps in order to make this celebration a meaningful one. She also thanked the students for organizing a mesmerizing show.
